04 Reason for applicationAs I was originally interested in international studies, I found the university’s international ■avor appealing, plus the fact that cross-cultural exchange thrives owing to the presence of numerous international students. In addition, because there is only one campus, I can interact with students outside the Faculty of Science and Technology or take classes in the humanities. ■ese features enticed me to apply to the Faculty of Science and Technology of Sophia University. Learning at the Faculty of Science and TechnologyI think that the main di■erence from high school education is that there is a high degree of freedom, and students can choose their ■elds of interest in a more specialized way. Although I had to take many general subjects in my ■rst and second years, from the third year on, I was able to learn practical techniques that would enable me to acquire skills useful in the future. Now in In the laboratoryI am studying in a laboratory that specializes in optimization and operations research. I took a class and thought it was a ■eld that could easily be applied to the real world. Currently, I am studying an ice hockey-related optimization theory and image processing, a theme that is relevant to the ice hockey club I belong to, as my undergraduate research.Future visionI have received a job o■er from an IT company for a marketing and planning position. I have decided against going to graduate school because I want to acquire practical skills as soon as possible rather than accumulate specialized knowledge. In this job, I will be required to engage with various professionals including engineers and sales sta■. I am looking forward my fourth year, I am having fun mixing hobbies with studies at the laboratory I belong to.(Photo taken in FY2023)to being involved in product development while making use of the knowledge I acquired as a science student in the engineering ■eld. LaboratoriesMiyamoto Laboratory(Department of Information and Communication Sciences)This laboratory deals with studies related to optimization and operations research. In our laboratory, we respect the autonomy of students working toward their graduation and allow them to decide for themselves the theme and direction of their thesis research. Finding an adequate research theme on their own is a challenge, but at the same time, it is what makes research fun. Let’s enjoy the joys and sorrows of research together.Pursuing my passion and interest K.OFourth-year student, Department of Information and Communication Sciences
