Reason for applicationSince I was a child, I have been fascinated with manufacturing, vehicles, and phenomena related to electricity, so I thought about going to university to study science and engineering. However, I could not make up my mind on my major because I was not sure what I wanted to learn or understand more. ■en, I found out that Sophia University allows you to ■rst learn the basics of the three academic ■elds of electricity and electronics, machinery, and physics in a comprehensive manner, and after that, you can decide what to major in. I found this appealing and so I applied.Learning at the Faculty of Science and TechnologyIn the experiment and exercise class, students gain hands-on experience with theories learned at their desks through observation and measurement of phenomena. Students acquire logic, thinking, and research skills by thinking in a group about the di■erence between experimental and theoretical values, how to perform experiments successfully, and why things happen the way they do. ■rough the experimental course and power system classes I selected, I was able to determine what I wanted to learn speci■cally and joined my current laboratory. In the laboratoryI picked this laboratory because I was enthralled by the fact that night city lights viewed from an airplane window and electricity coming out of an electrical outlet in everyday life are delivered from a power plant through transmission lines and substations in a huge power system. I am concentrating on a simulated power generation and transmission network from Hokkaido to Kanto and analyzing massive power systems through simulations of various conditions, such as the large-scale introduction of renewable energy and lightning accidents.Future visionBecause there are still many things I don’t (Photo taken in FY2023)know or understand about power systems, I am thinking of advancing to the master’s program to further my studies and research. My goal is to get a job at a power-related company or research institute, and although it is not concrete at this point, I hope to produce high-impact results there and make noteworthy achievements.LaboratoriesSakamoto Laboratory(Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences)In power systems, various control technologies are employed for the stable and efficient use of electrical energy, and such control technologies are supported by analytical technologies such as simulation. In this laboratory, we are studying power system analysis and control technology performance improvement for the stable and sustainable use of electrical energy. 03 Love is at the root of exploration and the greatest strength K.AFourth-year student, Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences
