Learnng i the Faculty of Science and2in F Technologyirst-Year Compulsory Courses / EnglishEducationLanguage ■English for Science  /EngineeringEnglish courses for science and engineering are available in the FST General Subject Group 1. ■e aim is to endow students with the ability to use English e■ectively when working in the real world. In order to read literature in foreign languages, present papers at international meetings, participate in international conferences, and enter into various agreements and negotiations smoothly, it is necessary to understand clear and concise English without misunderstanding, and to become familiar with terms speci■c to science and technology.A certi■cate of completion of Systematic Science and Technology English Education will be issued to students who earn at least 10 credits from the courses listed in the table on the right (English for Science/Engineering, FST Programs in English Courses, English Elective Courses in Language Courses, etc.) and submit a graduation thesis or other scienti■c/technical papers in English.■Overseas Short-Term Program■e Overseas Short-Term Program is specially designed for science and engineering students. During their three- to four-week overseas experience, students can improve overall communication skills required for research and studies in various ■elds of science and engineering, discussions, and other activities in English, mainly through language classes, lectures on science and engineering topics, and presentations given by every participant in English. As a compulsory elective course for FST General Subject Group 1, this program can be included in the credits required for graduation.■ Listening, speaking ■ Practicing accent, intonation, rhythm, etc. ■ Studying methods of expression frequently  used in various fields of science ■ Developing critical thinking ability ■ Learning data analysis ■ Listening to experts in various fields of science   and acquiring new knowledge ■ Presentations ■ Tours to campus, laboratory, and science  facilities outside the university as well as   company tours(from February to March)The Winter Program started in 2011.
